Where is the wall getting worse?
- Data
- Repeated photographs of retaining walls, taken on routine visits.
- Built
- A damage map of each wall that tracks defects between visits, so maintenance can be scheduled before a failure.
- Result
- Routine analysis of retaining walls, using accessible monitoring technology.
The question
Retaining walls need consistent monitoring, but inspection visits produce photographs and notes that are hard to compare from one visit to the next. The team needed to see which defects were growing, not just which ones existed.
What we did
We built a lean analysis that detects defects on each wall image and maps them onto the wall, so each visit adds to the same record. Change over time becomes something the team can read directly, and the maintenance schedule follows it.
What it changed
Retaining walls are now analysed routinely, with monitoring technology the team can use on every visit.
